--DH Pat Burrell flew back to Florida on Wednesday to have his lingering stiff neck checked team spinal consultant Dr. Tom Tolli. Burrell sat out Tuesday's game because of the lingering stiffness, which first sidelined him April 28 and hasn't responded to treatment. "Not that it's gotten worse; it's not getting better. I think that's the better way to describe it," manager Joe Maddon said. "We just thought it's at that point, let's really see what's going on there if it's anything more. And if there's not, that's great and we'll just continue along the same path."
--LF Carl Crawford hopes to not miss much time after leaving the game with a bruised right shoulder. "I hope to back in the lineup soon," he said. "I don't think it should be anything that's going to keep me out for a long time or anything like that." He was hurt making a diving catch in the fourth and left after batting in the fifth. --3B Evan Longoria was a career-worst 0-for-6 on Wednesday as his teammates got 15 hits without him.
--RHP Troy Percival said he felt fine despite turning an 8-2 game into a tight one by allowing two homers and two doubles in the ninth inning. "I felt good," he said. "There was no excuse for it. I just was getting underneath the ball. ... That's the strongest my arm's felt in two years. I was just throwing the ball down the middle."
--LF Carl Crawford moved past Aubrey Huff to become the team's all-time RBI leader with 451. Crawford also leads the Rays in games, hits, at-bats, runs, stolen bases and triples.
MEDICAL WATCH:
DH Pat Burrell (stiff neck) did not play May 12-13 and flew back to Tampa to be examined.
LF Carl Crawford (bruised right shoulder) left the May 13 game. He didn't think it was serious.
RHP Chad Bradford (right elbow surgery in February 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He is scheduled to start a rehab assignment in mid-May, aiming for a late-May return to the Rays.
RHP Jason Isringhausen (right elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 31. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Montgomery on April 20. He was scratched from his first scheduled appearance for Class AAA Durham on April 30 due to a mild abdominal strain, but he began pitching for Durham on May 3.
C Shawn Riggans (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 10. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Montgomery on May 5 before experiencing a setback. He will rest the shoulder until early June before resuming rehab work.
OF Fernando Perez (dislocated left wrist) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He is projected to miss four or five months because further exams showed ligament damage as part of the injury he suffered March 10. The Rays hope he will return in time to play regular-season games.
