--RHP Chad Bradford, recovering from February elbow surgery, looked good and felt good in a bullpen session Thursday and is ready to move to the next stage. He'll throw batting practice Sunday and Tuesday, and if all is well, he'll start a minor league rehab assignment, aiming for a late-May return.
--RHP Jason Isringhausen moved his rehab assignment from Class AA Montgomery to Class AAA Durham, but he was scratched from a scheduled appearance due to a mild abdominal strain he suffered while playing catch.
--RHP Andy Sonnanstine starts Friday against Boston with an 0-3 record and 7.78 ERA, but he is confident after a long talk with manager Joe Maddon about focusing on what he does best, which is locate his fastball on the periphery of the strike zone and throw sharp breaking balls. "We both feel that physically the way I'm throwing the ball is probably the best I've thrown it in the past two years," Sonnanstine said. "And it's quite possibly the worst results I've had in those two years. But physically I need to keep thinking about that and understanding you're not going to win every time out and sometimes you're going to struggle. I'm dealing with a little adversity right now, and I'm kind of excited about (Friday) to see how I can face a great lineup."
MEDICAL WATCH:
SS Jason Barlett (left hamstring tightness) left the April 29 game. He was back in the lineup April 30.
C Shawn Riggans (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 10.

RHP Jason Isringhausen (right elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 31. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Montgomery on April 20. He was scratched from his first scheduled appearance for Class AAA Durham on April 30 due to a mild abdominal strain.
OF Fernando Perez (dislocated left wrist) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He is projected to miss four or five months because further exams showed ligament damage as part of the injury he suffered March 10. The Rays hope he will return in time to play regular-season games.
