MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Troy Percival (sore back) didn't pitch Sept. 22-24. He returned to action Sept. 25, but he was left off the roster for the AL Division Series and the ALCS. He was sent to pitch in Instructional League games in the hopes that he might be activated for a subsequent playoff round. C Shawn Riggans (swollen right knee) hasn't played since Sept. 7. He had surgery Sept. 10, and he went on the 15-day disabled list Sept. 18. He could be out until mid-October.
RHP Jae Kuk Ryu (elbow surgery) was recalled from Class AAA Durham and placed on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 31.
RHP Chad Orvella (sore right shoulder) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 13. He had season-ending surgery May 23 to repair an impingement.
