Tampa Bay Rays Notes, Quotes 2008-09-12
--RHP Troy Percival's status should be clarified Friday. Percival left Wednesday's game after allowing the first three batters to reach base and said the lack of command was the result of a stiff back. Manager Joe Maddon said he would wait to see how Percival felt Friday before making any decisions about changing how he uses him.

--1B Carlos Pena's 14th-inning homer Wednesday was his sixth home run in 41 career extra-inning at-bats, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

--RHP Matt Garza moves up a spot in the rotation but starts on his normal fifth day Friday against the Yankees. The Rays moved RHP James Shields back one day to Saturday.

--RHP Andy Sonnanstine has now gone four starts without a win, but he was markedly better Wednesday, specifically with command of his fastball, which allows him to make better use of his breaking pitches. "He was probably as good as I've seen him," manager Joe Maddon said.

--3B Evan Longoria said he could return to the lineup Friday if all goes well pregame, when he takes his first full batting practice since his right wrist was fractured by a pitch Aug. 7. If not Friday, he is expected to play sometime during the weekend series in New York.

BY THE NUMBERS: 4.82 -- The ERA of Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay in three starts against the Rays going into Friday. He avoided going 0-4 against the Rays this season by picking up the win.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I knew coming out of the gates with those two runs was pretty precious. I'm kind of disappointed that I didn't go back out there and put another zero up." -- Rays starting pitcher Andy Sonnanstine, who allowed four runs over six innings against Toronto Friday.
