--RHP Gary Glover was designated for assignment because the Rays had no room in their bullpen with the veteran ready to come off the DL. Glover had been struggling with a 5.82 ERA and .300 opponents' average, but manager Joe Maddon believed he was close to a turnaround and hopes the Rays can keep him in the organization.

--Executive VP Andrew Friedman remains involved in extensive trade talks, and after seeking ways to upgrade their offense with a right-handed hitting outfielder, the Rays might instead be looking primarily to upgrade their bullpen.

--3B Evan Longoria extended his latest hitting streak to five games, the fifth time this season he has had one at least that long.

--DH Cliff Floyd rejoined the team after missing the last two games to return to the Tampa Bay area for the birth of his third child, a daughter he and wife Maryanne named Layla Marlee.

--RHP Matt Garza is excited about matching up Tuesday with Jays ace Roy Halladay for the second time in 11 days, especially after winning the first meeting: "It's going to be toe-to-toe. I'm going to race him to seven (innings) again."

--CF B.J. Upton stole his 32nd base, ranking third in the AL and seventh overall in the majors.

BY THE NUMBERS: 2.76 -- Runs the Rays have averaged in a 17-game stretch though Sunday in which they are 6-11.
