Tampa Bay Rays Notes, Quotes 2009-05-16
--The Rays on Friday matched the AL high for the last 50-plus years by stealing a base in their 17th straight game, matching the 2001 Yankees and 1976 A's. The only teams with longer streaks since 1954 (when records are readily available) are the 1985 Cardinals, with 29, and the 1986 Cards and 1981 Pirates, with 20.

--RHP Troy Percival struggled mightily in the ninth inning Wednesday, but manager Joe Maddon said he was not "overly concerned." Maddon noted that Percival is healthy and during the game had his fastball clocked at 93 mph, "which might be the high point for him in awhile."

BY THE NUMBERS: 21 -- RBI by Evan Longoria against the Red Sox in the first 10 games of the season, third most for a Boston opponent over a full season since the 1969 start of divisional play, behind Seattle's Ken Griffey, 24 in 1996, and Toronto's Vernon Wells, 22 in 2006.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "(Evan) Longoria and (Carlos) Pena, man, they remind me of me and Manny. The one-two punch of me and Manny (Ramirez) we had here. It's unbelievable." -- Boston's David Ortiz, on the Rays' 3-4 hitters to the St. Petersburg Times.
