Tampa Bay Rays Notes, Quotes 2009-05-15
--LHP Scott Kazmir starts Friday, convinced he is close to getting his mechanics in order. "It's getting there," he said. "It's something where you just feel comfortable and you don't even have to think about it anymore once everything's fine. Right now, it seems like I'm tweaking things, where sometimes I'll open up and the ball will come out good, free and easy, and other times it feels like I'm kind of working against myself."

--RHP Troy Percival struggled mightily in the ninth inning Wednesday, but manager Joe Maddon said he was not "overly concerned." Maddon noted that Percival is healthy and during the game had his fastball clocked at 93 mph, "which might be the high point for him in a while."

--LF Carl Crawford became the Rays' all-time RBI leader with a two-run double in the second inning Tuesday that gave him 451 for his career. He had been tied with Aubrey Huff, whom he literally passed on his way, as Huff was playing first for the Orioles.

--Manager Joe Maddon was honored by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a ceremony at the state capital Tuesday, where a resolution was read honoring his 2008 accomplishments.

BY THE NUMBERS: 21 -- RBIs by Evan Longoria against the Red Sox in the first 10 games of the season, third most for a Boston opponent over a full season since the 1969 start of divisional play, behind Seattle's Ken Griffey, 24 in 1996, and Toronto's Vernon Wells, 22 in 2006.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "(Evan) Longoria and (Carlos) Pena, man, they remind me of me and Manny. The one-two punch of me and Manny (Ramirez) we had here. It's unbelievable." -- Boston's David Ortiz, on the Rays' 3-4 hitters to the St. Petersburg Times.
