--SS Jason Bartlett made an aggressive attempt to score from second base in the seventh inning but got thrown out at the plate on a heads-up play by Phillies 2B Chase Utley. "It's a good baseball play on both sides," manager Joe Maddon said. "I liked what J.B. did, I didn't like what Utley did. It was a good baseball play. I would not change anything about it except that he would be safe."
--OF Rocco Baldelli, on whom the Rays declined a $6 million option, and OF/INF Eric Hinske, who will be in line for a big raise from his bargain salary of $800,000, are the Rays' only free agents. Baldelli homered in the seventh inning of Game 5, while Hinske fanned as a pinch hitter to end the World Series. --LHP Trever Miller and DH Cliff Floyd will know within a few days if the Rays are going to pick up their options. Miller has a $2 million option, or a $400,000 buyout, for next season. Floyd has a $3 million option, plus some incentives, or a $250,000 buyout, though his situation is complicated by a right shoulder injury. He has been told he has a slightly torn labrum, and if surgery is required, he may retire.
--SS Jason Bartlett, RHP Edwin Jackson and C Dioner Navarro are among eight Rays who will be eligible for arbitration. The others are RHP Grant Balfour, INFs Willy Aybar and Dan Johnson and OFs Jonny Gomes and Gabe Gross.
--Manager Joe Maddon said he has not had time to talk with his coaches and to sort out if they were all coming back, though all except pitching coach Jim Hickey are believed to be under contract for next season. "We haven't even broached that subject," Maddon said.
