--1B Carlos Pena leads the American League with 63 strikeouts, but he showed impressive patience in the fifth inning and put the Rays ahead to stay. After the Rangers intentionally walked B.J. Upton to load the bases, Pena took a four-pitch walk to force in the go-ahead run.
--DH Cliff Floyd came out of his recent cold streak in a big way and has now reached base in six consecutive plate appearances.
--RHP Edwin Jackson starts Thursday with a tough test in his bid to become more consistent as he is 0-1 (8.71 ERA) in two prior starts against the White Sox.
--INF Ben Zobrist made his first start since high school in the outfield and did fine, but his stay may be short-lived as the Rays are likely to option him back to Class AAA to make room for INF Willy Aybar to come off the DL, or possibly for a pitcher to bolster the bullpen until RHP Troy Percival's status is determined.
BY THE NUMBERS: 10 -- Games above .500 after play May 25, the most in franchise history, at 30-20.
