Tampa Bay Rays Inside Pitch 2008-08-29
The Rays are finding ways to get things done when it matters most.

"I think we're starting to get it," manager Joe Maddon said. "It's a matter of when you put the team ahead of yourself personally, that's when teams win. And I know I'm seeing it, I'm living it, I'm right there with them. The group right now is putting the team ahead of themselves."

That's key as the Rays enter their final 30 games of the season with a 4 1/2-game lead over Boston.

"You'd have to be crazy not to feel it," righty Edwin Jackson said. "It's not like every game we've just come out and blown people away. There's been a lot of good games, a lot of one-run games."

The Rays' 25-15 record in one-run games matches the best in the AL, and could be a sign of things to come.

Backup catcher Shawn Riggans said that with a month left, "It's go time, pretty much now."

Maddon just wants more of the same: "I'm really digging the way our guys are going about their business right now. There's nothing more I could ask, just keep doing what we're doing."

RAYS 3, JAYS 2: Cliff Floyd and Willy Aybar homered and Edwin Jackson delivered another strong start as the Rays won their 81st game, marking their first non-losing season.
