Tampa Bay Rays Inside Pitch 2009-05-12

Tampa Bay Rays Inside Pitch 2009-05-12
Getting pitcher Andy Sonnanstine straightened out will make life easier for the Rays.

After first throwing too many pitches over the middle of the plate and getting hit hard, and then throwing too many off the plate and walking too many, the No. 4 starter appears to have found a middle ground.

And coming off a very good outing in his last start and a pretty good one before that, Sonnanstine hopes to take the growing confidence into Tuesday's start against the Orioles.

"Just keep it rolling," he said.

Sonnanstine said the key to the turnaround in his last two starts was simply a matter of being aggressive, and he expects to do more of the same Tuesday.

The key to his turnaround has been being more aggressive.

"I just feel like maybe I was trying to throw to too small of a spot. Now I'm more being aggressive in lanes in the zone," Sonnanstine said. "And plus in a couple of the games I was missing too much in the zone. And when that happens, things can get out of control pretty quick so that makes you more hesitant to be in the zone and more prone to be nitpicky."
